In Memoriam: Gary Muldoon

Gary started with PCO Services back in 1974 as a technician in Sudbury working quickly through the ranks holding positions as Branch Manager, Sales Manager, General Manager and Vice President of Canada prior to the Orkin US acquisition of PCO. Shortly after the acquisition Gary moved to Atlanta and headed up the US Commercial
Division for about 3 years. During his time in Atlanta Gary was instrumental in introducing Canada’s Gold Medal program to the US market where it still thrives today. After a short time in Atlanta Gary and his family moved back to Canada where he accepted the position of President which he held until he retired in 2017.

Gary was instrumental in shaping the Canadian pest control industry along with Orkin Canada throughout his 43 years in the industry. Because of Gary, Orkin Canada is the vibrant company it is today, and we should all be grateful for his contributions over the years.

Those of us who had the privilege of working alongside Gary will remember him fondly for his Irish stubbornness, captivating storytelling, his beloved dog Cocoa, and his unwavering dedication to the people of Orkin Canada. Gary was not just a leader but also a mentor to many, including myself. His wisdom, guidance, and infectious spirit will be
deeply missed.

We will also remember Gary’s unique expressions or “Garyism’s” as we would call them;
• “Turn the Turret”
• “Shot over their bow”
• “Bugs have been good to us”
• And his most famous “Peel back the Onion”

No matter how you peel it, Gary was a wonderful human being and will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Gary. Your spirit lives on in the memories and hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gary’s memory made to The Salvation Army Mississauga Community Church.

Proposed re-evaluation decision and proposed special review decision

Wildlife Removal Companies – Proposed Licensing Requirement

Vaughan Animal Services is proposing the development of regulations for wildlife removal companies. This means that companies offering wildlife removal services will soon be required to obtain a business licence to operate in Vaughan. These regulations are being developed in response to instances of improper wildlife containment and removal practices which cause distress, injury, or death to animals. The intent of the licensing requirement is to ensure that businesses operating in Vaughan do so in a manner which minimizes the risk of harm or death to wildlife, and to implement consumer protection measures for the public.

Some of the proposed regulations include:

• Liability insurance requirements
• Trap requirements
• Release/relocation requirements
• Requirements for record keeping and policies and procedures
• Signage, advertising, and vehicle requirements

The by-law amendments will be proceeding for Council consideration in the coming weeks.
